Optomap Retinal Exam
Optomap is one of the most exciting new technologies in eye care. No longer do patients have to be dilated for their yearly exam.
The Optos enables the doctors to visualize your retina without dilating your eyes thus avoiding side effects such as light sensitivity and blurry near vision. It also allows for documentation from year to year and is a great tool to show patients the inside of their eyes.
The Eye Examination
During your visit, we make every effort to ensure that your eye health and vision remain at their best. The registration form includes your health history and medications, your family's health history, and your symptoms. This type of information lets us begin the process that will keep you seeing better, longer. Many eye conditions relate to the types of medications you take and the condition of your overall health.
We also ask that you tell us your hobbies and occupation. This information allows the staff to understand your needs and gives you the type of care and vision correction best for you. For example, a computer operator has special up-close visual needs, while a machinist or carpenter has his or her own unique vision and safety requirements.
The Preliminary Tests
During the first round of tests, our technicians will gather more information about your medical history and overall health. As a test for glaucoma, a potentially sight-stealing disease, we will use Applanation Tonometry to measure the pressure in your eyes. We will test your eye muscle performance, which shows the ability of your eyes to work together well. We will take your blood pressure, which can affect your vision and general health.
Special Tests
We use special computerized testing equipment to allow us to gather information quickly and accurately about the condition of eye health and assess your prescription.
Eye Health and Vision
The doctor will evaluate the health of the eyes and eyelids, examine for signs of disease, and provide expert vision correction to help you see your best. Medications may be prescribed, as well as eyeglasses or contact lenses. It is important to follow the doctor's instructions for treatment to speed the healing process and prevent complications. The doctor may also discuss specific lens options, contact lens programs, or surgical treatments.
Eye Glasses
Eyeglass lens options have changed dramatically in the past decade. You have the choice of lighter and thinner materials, tinted plastic lenses that change, no- line bifocals that provide the best range of vision for bifocal wearers, and coatings that improve safety, vision, and fashion. We choose the frames in stock for their comfort, dependability and quality.
Contact Lenses
Measurements of the surface of your eyes, tear production and visual requirements are all factors in successful contact lens wear. A variety of lenses and wearing schedules are available and the doctor will guide you toward a program designed just for you. Your eye care team will closely monitor your progress to ensure that the lenses fit properly and are providing the safety and comfort you deserve.
Alternatives
Advances in surgical correction techniques have made it more viable as a vision correction option. Laser procedures have led to faster, less painful refractive surgery. Many factors are used to help you decide if corrective surgery is for you. The doctor will outline your choices and make sure that you are well educated about your choices.
Your Primary Eye Care Providers
The doctors are trained to diagnose and treat eye diseases and injuries of the eye and surrounding structures, as well as provide expert vision correction. Both graduates of the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Dr. Young and Dr. Engle utilize the latest eye care techniques and procedures and maintains a state certification through continuing education.
As your primary eye care providers, the doctors will coordinate and co-manage all your eye care needs with specialists such as cataract and LASIK surgeons.
The staff also receives continuing education about their areas of expertise, as well as overall eye health care issues.
